From Theory to Practice: Implications of KReC for Designing Effective Learning Environments.

Abstract

The Knowledge Revision Components (KReC) framework outlines the cognitive processes underlying revision of inaccurate or misconceived knowledge. According to KReC, attempts to successfully correct or revise misconceptions must increase the activation of the correct information so that it can successfully compete with the misconceived knowledge. In this chapter, we synthesized research from the extant literature on text conditions, individual differences, and task instructions that can onfluence the revision process, specifically by increasing the competitive activation of the correct information. Based on our synthesis, we propose approaches for effective revision that can be implemented in complex learning environments.
